Bar admitted in Alabama, Georgia, and New York, Matthew Rone obtained his undergraduate degree (B.A. in History) from Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina where he was a Bonner Scholar. During his Junior Year Abroad, he studied at the University of Edinburgh in Edinburgh, Scotland and the Austro-American Institute in Vienna, Austria.
Matthew received his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2000. During law school, he was awarded the Abraham Franco Merit Scholarship, the Alabama Federal Tax Clinic Scholarship, and the Alabama Public Interest Law Grant. He remains a Guest Lecturer at the University of Alabama School of Law where he teaches on the subjects of international commercial arbitration and public investment law.
In 2001, Matthew began his career with the Baldwin County District Attorneys Office where he tried hundreds of felony and misdemeanor cases. As a prosecutor, he had a 100 percent jury trial win rate. He then worked for two civil litigation firms before opening the Law Office of Matthew E. Rone in Fairhope, Alabama in 2006. Over the course of a twenty year career, Matthew has obtained countless favorable decisions in civil, criminal, and administrative proceedings.
In 2019, as part of an educational sabbatical, Matthew obtained an LL.M degree (Masters of Law) in International Dispute Resolution from Humboldt University in Berlin, a top ranked law school in Germany. Since obtaining this specialized law degree, Matthew has resumed his law practice in Fairhope, Alabama where he offers litigation, arbitration, and other general practice services. As for domestic arbitration, Matthew currently serves as a FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) arbitrator tasked with deciding securities disputes among and between investors, brokerage firms, and individual brokers. As Counsel, he continues to represent clients in AAA (American Arbitration Association) arbitrations.
As for international arbitration, in addition to lecturing on the topics of international commercial arbitration and public investment law at the University of Alabama School of Law, Matthew serves as Tribunal Secretary on international commercial arbitrations, particularly ICDR (International Center for Dispute Resolution) proceedings. He has written a Masters Thesis comparing arbitral jurisdiction in the United States to other leading international arbitration jurisdictions within the context of the SCOTUS decision in Henry Schein, Inc. v.
